RETAIL TRADE LEAKAGE STUDIES
Retail sales taxes often represent a significant portion of a local government’s revenue. If people residing in a jurisdiction are purchasing goods and taxed services outside of the jurisdiction this “leakage” of potential tax revenue can have a dramatic impact on local government’s ability to provide services.
GeoPlanning Services can review the local demand for retail services and compare those data to known sales from local business license data to identify the specific goods and services where local demand is not being serviced within the community.
Analysis of surrounding communities will be accomplished to identify where retail trade demands are being met. The GeoPlanning Services staff can use GIS to identify specific areas within a community/county that are underserved for specific goods and services and recommend specific sites for proactive marketing to national retailers.
Customized marketing materials outlining the demand and competitive suppliers can be created along with a list of retailers to actively market sites and buildings are an important portion of this service offering.
